Fredi Ledae Holloway

Mrs. Fredi LeDae Holloway went on to Glory on Thursday, January 7, 2016. She was 92 years of age. Born on August 1, 1923 in Ahoskie, North Carolina, she was the first child of Claude J. Riddick and Irabel Riddick. Mrs. Holloway graduated from R. L. Vann High School in Ahoskie, and attended West Virginia State College, where she obtained her bachelors degree. After college, Mrs. Holloway moved to Harlem, New York, and ultimately embarked on a 35 year career as a teacher with the New York City Board of Education. She is predeceased by her first husband, Rufus James Dallas of Kimball, West Virginia. Mr. Dallas graduated from Bluefield State College, where he was an All-American in football. They met in New York and were married, and bought a house to raise their family in the South Ozone Park neighborhood of Jamaica, Queens. Mr. Dallas retired after 30 years as a Captain in the New York City Department of Corrections. Mrs. Holloway is also predeceased by her second husband, Lewis Holloway of Anacostia, District of Columbia. Mr. Holloway also graduated from Bluefield State College, as a distinguished football player. He attended Pace University in New York, and received a doctorate in commercial art, which led to his career as an illustrator with Marvel Comics. Mr. and Mrs. Holloway resided in the Baisley Park neighborhood of Jamaica, until his recent passing. With a masters degree from City University of New York, Mrs. Holloway began as a third grade teacher at Public School 160 Queens. Eventually she was selected by administration to pioneer the CRMD Program, which was developed by the Board of Education to serve special needs children. As a descendant of a classic American lineage, one that has produced four college presidents, Mrs. Holloway exemplified the mission of a professional educator. She is survived by her brother Claude J. Riddick Jr., cousins Pamela Payne and Dr. Harold Mitchell, son Wayne Rufus Dallas, two daughters Rhonda LeDae Dallas and Lynda Holloway, two nephews (Claude) Monte Riddick, Howard Riddick and niece Robin Riddick, two grandsons (Wayne) Jourdan Michaux, (Rhonda) Terrance Reche, and three great grandsons (Jourdan) Nasir Alexander, Xavier Alexander and Micah Michaux.
