Julia Eason Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Julia Faye (Jenkins) Eason entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Kindred Transition Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Julia Faye was the daughter of the late Jesse Jenkins and Annie L. (Joyner) Jenkins-Vaughan. She was the former wife of Robert R. Eason. From this union, two daughters, Jerlean Patricia and Marcia Lynete were born. The family continued to grow with two grandchildren Michael Powell and Felicia (Johnson) Ganthier (Renald). The great grandchildren are Vanessa, Manuel and the late Roxanne Williams. To those who dearly called her Aunt Julia Faye, you were securely tucked inside her heart. To her extended family that called her Mom, Mama Eason or Miss Julia, please know she loved you all. Sadly, all of Julia’s siblings preceded her in death. They were Melvin Jenkins (Elnora), Robert Jenkins (Doris), Evelyn Jenkins Parker (Rufus) and Della Jenkins. Julia graduated from Robert L. Vann High School in 1944. Being strong in faith, Julia joined Zion Grove Baptist Church at an early age. She served as the musician and choir director at Zion Grove Baptist Church for many years and various other churches in the community. After being a stay at home Mom, she went to work. Over the years, she worked several jobs. Julia retired from West Point Pepperell where she was the only African American working in the pattern/design department. At the time of her passing, she was a member of the City Temple of Baltimore (Baptist) Church in Baltimore, Maryland where she worked in the Nurses’ Ministry. Singing and playing music was her true passion. Julia Faye was an avid TV watcher. Some of her favorites were Young and the Restless, Bonanza, Golden Girls and Andy Griffin Show. She liked to cheer for the Baltimore Ravens to include the wearing of paraphernalia. Sometimes she did not know the game had ended or she was on the wrong channel. It is hoped that there is BINGO in heaven because she loved to play and was in it to win it. She was a lifelong learner and took advantage of any opportunity to learn something new. Julie Faye was very active in her community. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, was President of the PTA, campaigned for local politicians; mentor for the 4H Club, Girl Scouts and Home Demonstration Club. Several gospel and singing groups were formed with her guidance. While in Baltimore, she crocheted hat and bootie sets to donate to infants that would otherwise have left the hospital with nothing. She was always a cheerful giver. If you needed advice, a ride, someone to listen or a hug her arms were always open. In addition to her immediate family, Julia leaves to mourn her passing three beloved sister-in-laws, Doris Jenkins (Philadelphia, PA); Elnora Jenkins (Chesapeake, VA); and Mary Eliza DeMary (Franklinville, NJ) plus numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
