February 2, 1920 - June 15, 2015
Maggie Lena Leary Perry was born on February 2, 1920 in Bertie County to the late George and Maggie Leary. She departed this earthly life on Monday morning, June 15, 2015 at the Brian Center in Windsor, North Carolina. Maggie along with her husband and family were dedicated farmers for more than 50 years.Maggie had a passion for cooking, caring for people, and quilting. Whenever you entered her home, the sweet aroma of food would let you know that you were welcomed. Her first words would be “you better have something to eat”. After harvest time in the fall, it was time for Maggie along with Lassie White, Daisy Leary, Essie Mae Perry and Lovetta Perry to whip their needles and thread. Maggie’s sewing room served as a place for laughter, love and fellowship. Some of her beautiful quilts have reached more than ten states and two countries including Africa. She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted daughter, Bessie Gaskins of the home; sisters: Ernestine Perry of Williamston, NC and Thelma Moody Leary of Colerain, NC; sister-in-law: Allie Pearl Perry (Walter B) of Colerain, NC; daughter-in-law: Clarine Perry of Winton, NC; eleven grandchildren; a host of great and great great grandchildren. She raised five other children that were dear to her heart: James Leary, Curtis Perry, Howard Perry, Carl Perry and her “doll baby” Shirley Gaskins. In addition to her parents, Maggie was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Perry, three sisters and four brothers; one daughter, Bettie Perry; one son, Jerome Perry; one grandson and one granddaughter.
